Cats of the Inner West.

The Inner West of Sydney has no shortage of street art and graffiti in its streets and laneways, but since posting about it late last year, I have been noticing the cat stencil popping up everywhere. It’s gotten to the point where when driving the streets I am constantly glancing furtively down laneways in passing in case it contains a cat.  The other thing that has started to occur is that I have started to develop a pathology for the artists and why they choose the streets and laneways they are stenciling in and wondering if there is a pattern? Are they strategically located to make some sort of supper cool walking tour? I have so many questions. The other thing I have started noticing is people interacting with the cat and adding to the stencil. Such as the pink cat where someone else has painted a bowl of milk next to the her.  There is also what I refer  to as the the sad cat which has a giant X through it.

Have you seen any cats on your travels?

I love that stripey street cat. I photographed one in Waterloo. I don’t like the one with the X through it 😦
